If you were watching TV around the same time as I was when I was growing up, you’re probably familiar with the sounds made by these lovable little creatures known as yip yips. Known so, because that’s pretty much all they say. Typically these martians show up and come across a piece of earth stuff that’s mundane to us, but completely foreign to them.

This tutorial walks you through how to create one of these using crochet. Now I don’t really know how to crochet, but apparently these only use one type of stitch, so it shouldn’t be overly difficult if you want to make this your first project.

If you were a child in the 80s, like me, odds are you caught an episode or two of Sesame Street, and have fond memories of the Martians. Especially the time they tried to talk to the telephone – that was my favourite. In fact, I answered my own children’s questions with “yup, yup, yup, yup” or “nope, nope, nope, nope” so many times that I had to look up old clips on YouTube, so the poor things knew what on earth I was going on about.
