]]>While not my favourite Zelda title ever, the Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask certainly has a lot of cool content to come out of it. There’s obviously the iconic mask, which has been made in LOTS of different ways. However I’ve only ever seen the Fierce Deity sword show up twice. The first is by OrangeSpy121, and he shows us how to build this blade for around 15-20 dollars. It looks great, and looks like something I’d be able to make myself.
The second place I’ve seen this sword is by AweMe’s Man at Arms: Reforged. They always make the coolest, most realistic props. But seeing as I’ve not got my own metalworking shop available, I think making one of theirs will be out of my reach. Of course, even with all the tools, I’m also lacking a boatload of experience they’ve got, so I’ll just leave this kind of prop to the experts.

]]>The legend of Zelda is an all time classic Nintendo game, and one of the iconic parts of these games (beyond the shield and sword) is Link’s distinctive green hat. Over at Ravelry, Tolmema has put together what looks to be a pretty simple set of instructions on how to make your very own Link hat.
Loosely cast on 88 stitches, place marker, and join in the round.
First 7 rows are seed stitch (about 1”) (k1,p1 – then switch so that you’re doing the opposite of whatever the stitch in the previous row was).

]]>Having recently gotten back into creating some Perler bead creations, I’ve been looking at a lot more videos that use them to make crafts. Most of them are basically just pixel art (which I think is cool) but every now and then I run across a 3D design that really stands out. That’s definitely the case with this.. case. This 3D Perler bead Zelda chest looks incredible. I wish they spent a bit more time explaining their technique for getting the top to curve the way it does, because I think that’s one of the coolest parts.

]]>I absolutely love the fact that it’s gold all the way down
While you’re over at their Etsy page, be sure to check out their other soaps too, since there’s a BUNCH of other games you can get from them!
Developed at DigitalSoaps after years of customer requests, this N64 replica soap looks just like the real thing. Trick your friends and your enemies. Now, in gold!!
A few notes about gold soap: The very bright gold does rub off when handled or used. I did make it gold all the way through, but it will be duller after its first use.
Scented with Peppermint Sandalwood fragrance oil.
Made by the original inventor of gamer, gadget, tech and geek soap, DigitalSoaps. Featured in GamePro, GamesMaster, GEE Magazine, Forbes.com, Wired UK, Liberating Style, Micro Hebdo and Trendy One Magazine.

]]>These cool looking hand crafted pieces of functional art are super duper cool looking, and can open even the toughest bad guy.. err bottle. I may have to add this to my christmas wish list!
Bonus Action Shot:
A drink to the past. This is no ordinary bottle opener. Each bottle opener is hand finished and unique, guaranteeing no two bottle openers will look exactly alike. The sword also makes an excellent point to puncture cans for shot-gunning beers. It is made out of 10 gauge steel so that it won’t bend or break (unless you take a hammer to it or try to bend it on purpose, don’t be a dick) and coated in acrylic enamel to prevent rust. Also a quick note about the reds/blues the colors will vary, not all of them will look like the ones in the pictures, some will have more gold color shine through or purples, but then again that just adds to the uniqueness of each bottle opener.

It’s more like a diorama than a cake, since it’s largely inedible. But regardless, this Legend of Zelda cake takes the… cake. With multiple levels, some animatronics and a cool lightbox in the middle, this is probably the most complicated food I’ve ever seen.
I got my daughter started on her first Zelda game, The Skyward Sword for the Wii. She of course claims it to be the best Zelda ever made….
We had a really hard time coming up with the cake this time. There is so much in the game, it’s actually quite hard to decide what goes into the cake. Needless to say I had to cut 90% of the stuff I wanted on there. The original plan included a portion of every map and 4 times more characters :/. I was also not allowed to tape a light blue tablecloth to the wall behind the cake for a more immersive sky effect :(.
The video starts out at Skyloft (the main town of the game) with the shop keeper pedaling around and around waiting for the bell to ring and two other riders flying under the city then it expands outward to Link flying, Scrapper hoisting the pinwheel away from its landing place and Ghirahim hovering up and down over the tornado. Technically Ghirahim never hovers over a tornado but since it was he that produced the wind storm that pulled Zelda below the clouds, I decided to take some creative license there (otherwise I didn’t know where to put him). It then pans down to The Sealed Grounds just outside of the Faron Woods. This is another area you spend a fair amount of time in during the game. I was able to put two other baddies in this area, the Deku-Baba and the Octorok. Groose is working on his railway that wraps around the grounds later in the game and his catapult cart is half finished on the ground. Zelda is playing her harp and (young) Impa is standing in front of the temple while the Gate of Time ticks away inside.
Some obvious omissions that were meant to be added were drool on the Deku-Baba and the propeller on Scrapper. I really have no idea how I ran out of time for those two details but I did. I know Impa should be old but I like the younger version more. We were hoping to add more details around the temple using frosting and/or fondant but that mostly went unfinished too. HOWEVER, it turned out super cute and really just what I was going for.
The Temple entrance is 6 batches of Rice Krispies and the backside of the temple is 9 cakes stacked as high as we could make it. The small tower on either side are styrofoam wrapped with fondant. My wife made and painted all of the characters out of clay except for Link (I was able to use my Figma Link). My wife sewed 25 green Link hats as party favors. The girls seemed to like them, we did get our daughter a blue hat for the party from Etsy as we liked the design even though it is more of a LOZTP style.
….Speaking of……My daughter has since started The Twilight Princess and has exclaimed that it is better than the Skyward Sword (she loves animals so riding a horse and turning into a wolf is apparently awesome).

]]>I’m sure it’s not easy to sum up an entire game into a handful of symbols, but I think they did a pretty good job of capturing the games pretty well. The ones I’ve played at least. I didn’t even realize until I saw them all that I hadn’t even heard of a few of them. I guess I’ve got some catching up to do.
