Nerd Blanket Supreme by leilaniac
This super duper nerd blanket has a LOT of different references on it. Hopefully I get them all: Big Bang theory (soft kitty, warm kitty), NeverEnding Story (falcor), Voltron, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Star Wars, Firefly, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, some dinosaurs, Linux Logo’s (I think), Monty Python, Thundercats (Which turned out the best IMO), Farscape, a unicorn, The Princess Bride, a hash tag, and Gonzo from the Muppets.
I still haven’t figured out what the fish is from, so either it’s just a fish, or I missed that reference completely.
Kudo’s to leilaniac for putting this crazy list of nerd squares together for our use, and I hope that his nephew truly enjoys the amount of nerdyness that’s on this blanket.
I created the square designs in Excel, using a variety of pictures, text art, etc., as sources. (See my Pratchgan square for a better description of intarsia charting in Excel.)
The squares are 40×48 (plus 2 buffer rows/stitches on each side), in sock yarn, on size 3 needles. Most of the yarn is ShiBui sock, with an assist from Lorna’s Laces Zombie BBQ.
I didn’t post the binary name (center) square, on the theory that no one would be interested in knitting a square with my nephew’s name on it.
All the sewing required to attach the knitted bits to blanket back and binding were done by my mom, because I can’t sew to save my life.
