The post Moraff’s Stones the Board Game by CrazyClever appeared first on Nerd Crafting.
]]>I’ve never heard of Moraff’s stones before I ran across this instructable, so I’m not sure how true to the original CrazyClever has managed to get their conversion. Regardless, it’s a very cool looking board game. In their instructable they walk us through the process they did while creating the game. So if you’re looking to make your own version, you’ll either have to message them there, or replicate what’s been done in the same way that they did; by trial and error.
What I like about this most is getting to see some of the though process that went into creating a custom board game. I wish there was about 100 more pictures though, since it would be an interesting thing to see how this whole thing progressed from idea to completion. Still a cool instructable though. And of course the game itself looks fantastic.
Stones is an old DOS game created by Steve Moraff in 1990 as a part of his Moraff’s World series of adventure games. It is a gambling/ trading game where you are pitted against monsters in a tavern, trying to earn the strongest hand. It is a four person game and it is fun for most age levels, so it should make for a great family game.

]]>As far as TARDIS’s go, there’s only a few ways fans typically make them. And that’s a big or small blue box that goes somewhere. What isn’t typical is when you’ve opened the door to go inside is to find an entire control room there. Especially not one as crazy as the one YouTuber Todd has created. It’s got so many bells and whistles that it’s hard to see all of them in a single viewing. There’s switches and knobs galore. There’s a working computer built into the panels. Heck, there’s even a flux capacitor. Which is a nice touch if I do say so myself.
Of course any description I try to give really won’t do it justice, so be sure to watch the video below to see this magnificent piece of work.
And we begin this week with a moment of appreciation for one man’s single-minded devotion to the TARDIS. As regular Who’s Day readers will know, quite a few Whovians have the skills required to knock up a police box, whether as a shed, or a cake, or the front of their wardrobe.
However, YouTuber The Todd deserves a round of applause, as he has spent over a year creating a TARDIS in his back garden that contains a console that actually serves as a serviceable work desk, complete with hidden keyboard, DVD-drive (and what looks like some 8-track cartridges), screen, and flux capacitor.

]]>At a price tag of €6500 (~7300US) this table doesn’t come anywhere close to cheap, but for the ultimate Inception fan, it might just be worth it.
Inspired by a film this table is a well balanced mixture of wood, steel and 3D printed technology.

]]>So I finished Kaylee’s TARDIS Playhouse last night. My wife and I brought it up from the basement with almost no issues. We had Kaylee hidden away in the back room so we could put it in place. She was very concerned when she first saw it but quickly realized it was a really big box to play around in and on. I had to piece the carpet interior because the remnant we bought wasn’t actually enough to it proper but I figure she will pretty much destroy the interior anyway. Oh, and the lock is just three pieces of .040 styrene that we scored on one of our vinyl cutting plotters . I glued the pieces together and used putty to get the edges smooth.

It’s no secret, I absolutely love playing board games. But when it comes to monopoly, I almost unequivocally refuse to play. It lasts too long, and by the end everybody usually hates each other. That being said, if anything could convince me to change my mind, it’s this freaking beautiful handmade Lord of the Rings Monopoly board made by Sonja Batusic. I’d still probably want to flip the table over at the end, but I probably wouldn’t so that I didn’t damage this super cool piece of art.
I found an old wooden box in the basement, wrote down the dimensions of the box and started thinking of ideas for the design of the board. Since I’m a big fan of the “Lord of the Rings”, I wanted to be immersed in the story. So, instead of a parking lot, I put Weathertop. Instead of the policeman, I put Shelob… You get where I’m going with this. The board design was made with Adobe Illustrator, then printed and coated. In order to avoid a mess, I created wooden partitions inside the box – so the money, cards, dices, houses and metal figures wouldn’t mix.

If you’re looking for a nice relaxing place to spend a weekend out on Tatooine or as close as your cottage, then look no further. This is the droid and storm trooper Star Wars deck chairs you’re looking for!
The work is subtle, but the overall effect is amazing. Both of these chairs look super stylish as well as still being completely functional. A must make for any cottage weekender star wars fan.

]]>Either way, I’m going to file this under “might try it later”.

When I was wandering through the dollar store the other day I came across this super amazing wood-grain contact paper. and was completely smitten! I knew I needed to find something to cover it with – pronto!
Enter, my lapytop. This poor beast is old, makes a crazy fan-sound whenever it’s on, and can’t really handle doing more than one tast – but it works! and that’s all that really counts. Until this morning it was covered in all sorts of bumper stickers to hide the numerous dents and scratches. But after a some scraping, a little goo-be-gone and a date with some contact paper – it’s unique and cute again and makes me smile!
So, I had plenty of photos of the entire process, but my camera is also an old and quirky beast and has taken to randomly deleting photos, which it decided to do half-way through the whole DIY process, so sorry! (donations to the Josie-gets-a-new-camera fund are greatly appreciated – JUST KIDDING!:) So I will attempt to explain things better then I normally do…

If I ever get access to a laser cutter I may give this DIY wood comic book cover craft a try. Of course if I did, I’d probably end up making a version of Spawn, #1. I don’t know why, but it’s probably one of my all time favourite comic book cover.
The actual process looks pretty tricky, involving creating a vector image in either GIMP or CorelDRAW (for his laser cutter) and using different kinds of wood. But the finished product looks so incredibly slick that it might be worth learning how to do all that to get one.
Originally I was going to laser etch the Amazing Fantasy cover into a solid piece of wood and then stain it different colors. Not only would that have been even more tedious and time consuming, once stain touches wood it is difficult to remove, thus allowing little room for error. I wanted something that would really pop and catch your eye on the wall so I altered the design to be three-dimensional. This was achieved by laying various species of wood veneer on top of balsa wood to give the illustrations depth, and then finally attaching all of the pieces to a solid wood board that can be mounted and displayed on a wall or bookshelf

]]>I also made up some blueprints for myself to follow. I photocopied my controller and placed a sheet of tracing paper on top of the regular paper that the controller was copied on to. the reason i did this was so i could write and erase measurements and whatnot. I then took calipers and measured the actual controller in millimeters and just transfered that to centimeters. These measurements are more of a guide line than anything.

I don’t have a workshop, but I would LOVE to make a video on making these shelves. They look absolutely incredible. I can picture what they would look like as my new video background as well. It would certainly give the toys an appropriate home, that’s for sure.
I’ll probably do some pricing out, and see if I can get my hands on a couple more power tools and see what it would take to put one of these bad boys together.
It would have to be my own layout of course, since I think that’s half the fun of making one of these.
