It’s no secret, I absolutely love playing board games. But when it comes to monopoly, I almost unequivocally refuse to play. It lasts too long, and by the end everybody usually hates each other. That being said, if anything could convince me to change my mind, it’s this freaking beautiful handmade Lord of the Rings Monopoly board made by Sonja Batusic. I’d still probably want to flip the table over at the end, but I probably wouldn’t so that I didn’t damage this super cool piece of art.
I found an old wooden box in the basement, wrote down the dimensions of the box and started thinking of ideas for the design of the board. Since I’m a big fan of the “Lord of the Rings”, I wanted to be immersed in the story. So, instead of a parking lot, I put Weathertop. Instead of the policeman, I put Shelob… You get where I’m going with this. The board design was made with Adobe Illustrator, then printed and coated. In order to avoid a mess, I created wooden partitions inside the box – so the money, cards, dices, houses and metal figures wouldn’t mix.

]]>I do love me some Adventure Time, so I’m game for seeing crafts people make out of the show in pretty much any capacity, but these adorable little guys are some of the best crochet dolls I’ve seen so far.
I recently started watching Adventure Time on Cartoon Network UK with my boys (I only just found out we could get it on our subscription). It’s a great show, suitable for kids (maybe not very young ones) and adults – the humour’s fun and weird but not mean. It’s set in a colourful, fantastical post-apocalyptic world with Finn, a 12/13 year old boy (the only human we know of) and Jake the dog, who is capable of stretching or shrinking to almost any size or shape. They have all sorts of adventures – Finn is pretty handy with a sword – and sing cute little songs.

]]>I’m a long time fan of Doctor Who – I started watching Jon Pertwee in the 1970s when I was very little, and I’ve loved it ever since, old series and new. The Daleks are a brilliant creation, scary and iconic, and I just had to crochet them. I made three a few years back, two for swaps and one for a present, but I never made any for myself. With the new season of Doctor Who just starting (and with the first episode featuring a selection of different types of Daleks) I knew I had to make them again.
