One of the baddest of all the baddies in the Doctor Who universe has got to be the Weeping Angels. Originally seen in the episode ‘Blink’, we got our first taste of these nasty guys. They live in a quantum locked state, so as soon as they’re observed, they’re in a solid rock state. But when you’re not, and that includes blinking, they move faster than you can possibly imagine. If they get you, they can send you back in time, or just plain murder you. They’re jerks like that. And the worst part is, when they’re at full strength, just seeing an image of them is enough for them to grab ahold of you. So unless you happen to have your Doctor handy, it’s fair to say that by the time you’ve seen one of these guys it’s too late.

Penwiper337 has made a cosplay outfit that should be enough to scare the pants off any of the younger Whovians. It’s super creepy. Be sure to head over to her Livejournal as there’s a bunch more pictures, and a really good breakdown of how she created this wicked outfit.

This past weekend I went to DragonCon, one of the largest sci-fi conventions in the world. It’s absolutely massive, and filled with some of the best, most talented costumers you could imagine. I wanted to make something nifty, challenging, and Doctor Who. I love the episode Blink, so despite being a little intimidated, I decided to give it a try.

As far as TARDIS’s go, there’s only a few ways fans typically make them. And that’s a big or small blue box that goes somewhere. What isn’t typical is when you’ve opened the door to go inside is to find an entire control room there. Especially not one as crazy as the one YouTuber Todd has created. It’s got so many bells and whistles that it’s hard to see all of them in a single viewing. There’s switches and knobs galore. There’s a working computer built into the panels. Heck, there’s even a flux capacitor. Which is a nice touch if I do say so myself.

Of course any description I try to give really won’t do it justice, so be sure to watch the video below to see this magnificent piece of work.

And we begin this week with a moment of appreciation for one man’s single-minded devotion to the TARDIS. As regular Who’s Day readers will know, quite a few Whovians have the skills required to knock up a police box, whether as a shed, or a cake, or the front of their wardrobe.

However, YouTuber The Todd deserves a round of applause, as he has spent over a year creating a TARDIS in his back garden that contains a console that actually serves as a serviceable work desk, complete with hidden keyboard, DVD-drive (and what looks like some 8-track cartridges), screen, and flux capacitor.

So I finished Kaylee’s TARDIS Playhouse last night. My wife and I brought it up from the basement with almost no issues. We had Kaylee hidden away in the back room so we could put it in place. She was very concerned when she first saw it but quickly realized it was a really big box to play around in and on. I had to piece the carpet interior because the remnant we bought wasn’t actually enough to it proper but I figure she will pretty much destroy the interior anyway. Oh, and the lock is just three pieces of .040 styrene that we scored on one of our vinyl cutting plotters . I glued the pieces together and used putty to get the edges smooth.

So I had this ugly old clock in my craft dungeon. Ok so it really wasn’t that ugly, but I thought it needed an update. I stuck a sticky note on it that said “DO SOMETHING WITH THIS CLOCK!” So I tried to think of a color scheme or theme. Right next to the clock is my Doctor Who action figure and its time, time lords, traveling time and space and its a clock… get it?!

So I’m not the type of person who gets really excited about any particular kind of jewelry. Especially not rings. But OH MAN this TARDIS ring is pretty. The outside of the band has bumps that are suspiciously like the Bumps on a Dalek’s armour, and the TARDIS actually spins in its socket. How bloody cool is that!

All it needs now is a tiny jewelled doctor to pop out of it, and it’s perfect!

Up until now I have been making videos of crafts that were inspired by others, and then engineered by myself. Or at least were heavily influenced by an existing thing. My chewbacca domo for example while being a completely original design, was still based on an existing stuffed domo.

That’s changed with my TARDIS sewing box. I’ve been fighting with a way to keep all of my sewing gear in the same spot, and I have looked at all kinds of different places to find something that didn’t look like it was made for an old lady who really enjoyed floral patterns.

After months of fruitless searching, I had still found nothing. But I’m a DIY guy. I got this.. but the question was “what should I make?”. So many options to choose from, what should I do?

Inspiration hit when I was at my sisters. What seems like forever ago, I had made her a case for her Barbies out of plastic canvas. It’s after I saw that, that I decided to make a TARDIS.

So I sat down and started designing. And designing. And then some more desigining. But eventually I had a pattern to work from.

A mere 43 hours later (over several days) I had myself my very own TARDIS!

Sadly it isn’t bigger on the inside, but it is big enough to hold my scissors, and pretty much any other sewing essentials I’ll need to travel with. The only real down side is that it’s actually pretty large.. so it isn’t quite as portable as I’d like, but I’m still pretty happy with the way it turned out.

As some of you may know, I recently made my own Doctor Who themed sewing case. However mine lacks all of the cuteness that this fuzzy little Dalek sewing case has. It’s just so cute and murdery looking.

Isn’t this little guy adorable? He looks like a Dalek, but I’ve never seen a Dalek looking this cute. Now that you’ve seen him, I’m sure he’s the envy of all you Doctor Who crafters out there.
